Fighting a bugged Dyna Boss in CAV caused whole server to lag - cleared as soon as Dyna died #1917

Reproduction steps

  1. Start a fight with a dyna boss - pulled using taunt tool (in my case "Voronfang the Brood Mistress")
  2. It initiates the fight back, e.g. comes over to me but doesn't attack (no damage, no "missed" messages - just not attacking)
  3. Watch whole server lag out - plenty of people on Global commenting on bad server lag.
  4. As soon as bugged Dyna dies - server restores, like it never happened.

Expected results

The mob should have attacked me and the server should not have lagged.

Actual results

This was at 04:30 GMT, I was in CAV at the 130 Dyna (Spider Boss, Pos: 846.2, 2390.1, 41.0)

When I attacked the Dyna (pulled using Taunt) and started fighting I noticed it wasn't trying to hit me at all. As soon as the fight started the whole server began to lag quite badly (various people commented on Global).

As soon as the Dyna died (and I mean, to the exact second) the server recovered instantly. Pretty sure the bugged Dyna was causing the lagging some how.

Bug prevalence

Only once. Will see if it repeats if I get another bugged "non-attacking" Dyna.

I killed a few more respawns on the same spot, none of them had the "no attack" bug and no lag happened during the fights.

Ive had a little look when the population was sat at 129, no one mentioned lag in global and everything seemed smooth. Perhaps coincidental timing?

There was definitely comments;

Wasn't just me. I made of note of the time which was 04:32am UK (GMT). I'm sure it wasn't coincidence, the timing of the start and end of the lag was exactly, to the second, the fight with the bugged Dyna.

I wasn't saying at the time you wrote this bug there wasn't comments... I meant when i personally tested at 10:30 am UK this morning, i didn't see any feedback in global of people recieving lag at the time of me fighting the dyna.

Apologies, I thought you'd meant you checked the chat at the time it occurred for me. When fighting the Dyna did you have the attack bug? E.g. Dyna moved to attack but recorded no hit/miss in combat? I think this is what caused the issue.

It's ok. I did check when i saw the bug at the messages in global and back tracked to the comments. I've now tried with 207+ people online and there was no lag i could see also. I used a soldier taunt a minute ago and let him come to me, he hit on first attack

Interesting, perhaps there's more than one variation of the bugged Dyna. The one that caused the issue for me definitely didn't hit (or miss) me even once, just walked over and sat there while I hit it.

I'll keep trying more, see if it reoccurs.

I don't think it's this mob at all. I think it's safe to close this, I've spawned 100s of dyna's trying to reproduce this without getting similar issue unfortunately. Nice try though.

My conclusion here is that this is an effect and not a cause.
